Building strategies to limit emissions of fluorocarbon refrigerants
Refrigerants Australia has continued to develop and implement strategies to limit the emissions of all refrigerants, and has been an active participant in both the Montreal Protocol and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change processes.
Refrigerants Australia has developed significant voluntary initiatives to minimise the emissions of refrigerants to the atmosphere, including training and certification programs and the establishment of a national product stewardship organisation, Refrigerant Reclaim Australia.
While there is a strong environmental imperative to minimise the emissions of all fluorocarbon refrigerants to the environment, the responsible use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) can produce environmental benefits by way of increased energy efficiency, an important consideration in terms of global climate protection.
The industry is working on deploying new low-global warming potential refrigerants, which will make an enormous contribution to minimising the emissions of greenhouse gases from the air conditioning and refrigeration industry.
